Strategic Leadership
& Systems Knowledge Library

A Living Library of Meredith Consulting Services

What This Library Represents

The MCS Knowledge Library has evolved beyond a collection of strategic planning and leadership tools. It now reflects an integrated body of work focused on how leaders create enterprise value, develop other leaders, steward living organizational systems, build capacity, and turn strategy into sustainable execution. The library is intentionally described as a living document because the work continues to develop through executive coaching, board-level conversations, organizational transformation, field application, writing, speaking, and media.

At the center is a simple MCS premise: organizations cannot be understood only by its structure or its individual components. Organizations are not machines.  They are a living system. They are made up of people, culture, values, trust,  relationships, feedback loops, capacity limits, patterns, accountability, and external environments that shape them. Leaders must learn to see and lead the living system.

Anchoring Concept: Leadership is developed from the inside out – identity, awareness, judgment, presence, influence, and disciplined practice.

  • Leadership identity, self-awareness, assumptions, and perception
  • Leadership presence, energy, gravity, and emotional regulation
  • Judgment, decision formation, and decision-making under pressure
  • Influence before authority and leading across organizational boundaries
  • Leader of leaders: multiplying leadership capacity beneath the leader
  • Delegation, empowerment, trust, and the movement from compliance to alignment
  • Communication, difficult conversations, conflict, and feedback
  • Resilience, adaptability, humility, credibility, and executive maturity
  • Coaching leaders to think systemically rather than react linearly

Anchoring Concept: Senior leadership requires a shift from managing work to stewarding the enterprise, shaping conditions, and creating leadership capacity throughout the system.

  • CEO and president readiness
  • Executive team effectiveness, alignment, and dysfunction diagnosis
  • Board-level and senior executive advisory conversations

Anchoring Concept: Organizations are living, interconnected systems. The pattern is the point: behavior, flow, structure, culture, and outcomes continually shape one another.

  • Living systems and systems of systems
  • Emergent systems and unintended consequences
  • Boundaries, interfaces, handoffs, and cross-functional dependencies
  • Feedback loops, learning loops, and organizational memory

  • Decision, information, energy, and authority flow
  • Regeneration, decay, and system health
  • Leadership behavior as a force that changes system conditions

Anchoring Concept: Capacity is more than staffing. It is the ability of the whole organization to absorb work, make decisions, transfer knowledge, and sustain performance without creating hidden congestion.

  • Culture as an operating system
  • Workforce attraction, retention, and empowerment
  • Generational transfer, mentoring, voice, and respect for organizational foundation
  • Training, development, and creation of leaders below leaders
  • Trust, alignment, psychological safety, and healthy challenge
  • Scheduling, prioritization, workload design, and sustainable execution
  • Organizational learning, adaptability, and workforce readiness

Anchoring Concept: Strategy and leadership become real only when they change the operating rhythm, decisions, behaviors, and measurable conditions of the organization.

  • 90-day operating cadence and informed leadership development
  • Execution systems, accountability rhythms, and decision cadence
  • KPIs, scorecards, heat maps, and pattern-based measurement
  • Systems maps, workflow maps, and bottleneck maps
  • Leadership heat maps and organizational energy mapping
